If you’re using businesses to deal with smoke ventilation systems that are not members of the SCA, then they have not been sufficiently audited to carry out the works, and by extension this means potentially they are not following up to date regulations and/or British Standards.

Make sure you are using a responsible, accredited business like FTG for smoke ventilation on any new projects, but also for the maintenance in any existing buildings you may be responsible for. Do not wait for the law to be enforced before acting!

“I suspect that some of you are working on the assumption that [you have] two to three years before you really need to worry about this – that is akin to going out on a big party on a night before lockdown in the current pandemic. You’re knowingly taking a risk that you don’t need to, and which you shouldn’t, and you are ignoring the potential consequences. It is also morally indefensible.” – Dame Judith Hackitt
